Beirut, Lebanon – On Friday, the leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah said that Islamist terrorists “had done more harm to Islam than any cartoon or book”, in a reference to the recent attack by suspected Islamist militants on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris.

“Takfiri terrorist groups had insulted Islam more than even those who have attacked the messenger of God through books depicting the Prophet or making films depicting the Prophet or drawing cartoons of the Prophet,” Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah, said in a statement.

Takfiris are those accusing others of apostasy. According to Shiite Hezbollah, all Sunni radical groups are takfiris.

On Wednesday, at least 12 people were killed and ten others injured during an attack on the headquarters of the French newspaper Charlie Hebdo’s.

Hezbollah militants are reportedly engaged in the Syrian war, supporting the regime of President Bashar al-Assad against the armed opposition and Islamist factions.
