Damascus, Syria – On Saturday, two civilians were reported dead and dozens others wounded after a mortar shell hit al-Zablatini Square in Damascus, in southern Syria.

Speaking to ARA News in Damascus, civil rights activist Ahmed Sabbagh said that a mortar shell launched by pro-Assad forces hit the Mawasim Square in the Zablatini neighborhood, killing two civilians and injuring more than ten others as well as causing extensive damage.

“The wounded were transferred to nearby hospitals.”

Sabbagh added that three other civilians were wounded after a similar shell hit the Christian neighborhood of Bab Touma in the old city of Damascus.

Local sources said that several other shells hit the al-Qusur and Adawi districts in Damascus. No casualties were reported. 

In the meantime, civil rights activist Yezen Ibrahim told ARA News in Damascus that on-Saturday morning three civilians were killed and several others were injured due to aerial bombardment by the pro-regime warplanes on the city of Arbin in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus countryside.

“Similar raids targeted the areas between the towns of Saqba and Kafr Batna, causing injury to a number of civilians,” Ibrahim said.

In other developments, clashes renewed between opposition fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Syrian regime forces in the Harasta neighborhood in a Damascus suburb. At least one fighter of the FSA was killed during the clashes.

The A-Muadamiya district in the Western Ghouta was also exposed to mortar shells by pro-regime army forces on Saturday.  No casualties were reported.
