Suruc, Turkey – On Thursday, a Kurdish civilian who was stranded on the border with Turkey was killed and several other civilians were injured after being hit by shells fired by militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) on the Tel Shaeer area, in western Kobane (Ain al-Arab) in the province of Aleppo, northern Syria, locals reported.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Mamo Najib, a villager from Tel Shaeer, said that militants of the Islamic State fired a number of shells from the village of Minaz towards gatherings of displaced people in Tel Shaeer, which led to the death of Antar Habash, 39, and the injury of several others.

“Other missiles caused the destruction of a number of civilian vehicles,” Najib added.

Dr. Mohammad Aref Ali, who works in the field hospital of Kobane, stated to ARA News that IS militants targeted the civilians stranded in the western border areas of Kobane, and causing the death of one civilian and the injury of nine others.

“Five of the injured were transferred to the Turkish side of the border for urgent treatment,” Ali added, pointing out that the IS hardline group has most likely used cluster munitions “because each bomb exploded twice, and that was seen when the injured  were transferred”.

Noteworthy, many Kurdish civilians lost their lives while a large number of them injured in the Tel Shaeer area, as a result of repeated attacks by the extremists on this region with missiles and rockets.
