Istanbul, Turkey – A number of U.S. military experts will be deployed to train and arm fighters aligned with the  moderate opposition.

The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced Friday it would deploy 400 military trainers in addition to several hundred American soldiers in the mission of training and arming the Syrian moderate opposition.

The ministry added that officials at the White House approved the plan which was first proposed nearly a year ago, which stipulated that several thousands of moderate opposition fighters would be trained and armed in countries neighboring Syria.

The U.S. Administration plans to arm the moderate opposition fighters to combat the Syrian regime’s army and militants of the Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) in Syria, U.S. military officials announced earlier.

Members of the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) –the main opposition body– have called on the U.S. administration to provide qualitative weapons to rebel fighters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in Syria.

However, the U.S. administration repeatedly emphasized the FSA’s inability to guarantee the weapons will not fall into the wrong hands.
