Deir ez-Zor, Syria – The Islamic State group (IS/ISIS) took control of several locations belonging to the pro-regime forces on the hill overlooking the city of Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria.
Speaking to ARA News in Deir ez-Zor, civil rights activist Fayez Abdulaziz said that IS militants took control of those sites after clashes with the pro-regime forces.
“IS radicals seized weapons, ammunition and guns, after killing dozens of pro-regime army members,” he said.
Meanwhile, six IS militants were reportedly killed Saturday in clashes with pro-regime forces in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor military airport.
Also on Saturday, the IS group withdrew from the southern parts of the airport after the arrival of military reinforcements to the regime forces from Brigade 137 near the village of Ayyash west of the ciyt of Deir ez-Zor.
This comes as battles between IS and the regime intensified in several areas of Deir ez-Zor and its countryside.
In the meantime, 20 members of the pro-regime forces were reported killed in an ambush carried out by the IS militants in Homs province, in central Syria.
Omar Suleiman, civil rights activist based in Homs, stated to ARA News that the Islamic State militants targeted a pro-Assad military convoy on the highway of Homs – Salamiya in the eastern countryside of Homs which killed 20 members of the regime forces.
“IS insurgents seized weapons and ammunition in addition to the destruction of two manned military vehicles with rocket-propelled grenades in the same ambush,” Suleiman said.
