Islamic State militants receive reinforcements to continue Kobane attacks

Kobane, Syria – Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), backed by the Peshmerga forces and rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), continued their progress against militants of the Islamic State (IS/ISIS) in the embattled border city of Kobane, northern Syria. 

The People’s Protection Units (YPG) announced Monday that they killed 23 militants of the IS radical group and that of one Kurdish fighter was killed during clashes in the suburbs of Kobane. 

Meanwhile, the Media Center of the YPG emphasized in a statement that the IS attacks continued in southern Kobane as the militants received additional supply of fighters and ammunition from Raqqa. 

“Our forces have cleansed major neighborhoods of Kobane of IS terrorists,” the YPG’s MC said.

Forces defending Kobane also attacked IS strongholds in the village of Minaz and Izaa on Monday, killing 13 militants and injuring dozens others, military sources told ARA News

Khalid M., one of the YPG fighters from Kobane, stated to ARA News that the Islamic State extremists destroyed residential buildings and a mosque in central Kobane before withdrawing from major neighborhoods of the city.

“Those terrorists have no place to hide inside the city,” Khalid said.
