On Tuesday, 63 people were killed due to airstrikes by the Syrian regime’s air force in the city of Raqqa.
Raqqa has been under the control of the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS) militants for a year and a half. The city and its countryside have been exposed to strikes and military operations by the Syrian regime, especially after the militants took control of the Tabqa military airport and other Syrian army bases in the province.
Local sources reported that the regime’s warplanes targeted the city with nine strikes on Tuesday, killing dozens of civilians as well as a number of Islamic State militants.
Raqqa’s eastern neighborhoods were the main target for the strikes.
The Syrian air force has increased its strikes across Syria since the U.S.-led coalition started attacking Islamic State positions inside Syria in September.
